Rita “Nanuck” Smock, 76, of Riverton, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at her home. Cremation has taken place as were her wishes. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 2:00 pm at Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Echo Klaproth officiating.

Rita Rae Gergely was born on November 14, 1936 in Des Moines, IA to Paul Andrew and Grace Phyllis (Cain) Gergely. She graduated from North High School with the class of 1954. She then went to the University of Iowa in Iowa City, IA, studying Interior Design.

She then lived in Colorado from 1964 to 2004, living in both Colorado Springs and Aurora. She then moved to Riverton, WY where she married Charles Smock on July 18, 2004.

Before moving to Riverton she worked as an Interior Designer, a district secretary for Susie’s Casuals, an executive assistant for Container Industries, and an administrative assistant for Vantage Homes.

Her family said that she was a gifted oil and pastel artist, a seamstress, loved crafts, home design, and upholstery. She was a “professional” garage-saler and loved scouting them her whole life. Her family said that for several years, she crocheted newborn caps for each baby born in Riverton Memorial Hospital.

She was active in the Methodist Church Martha Ruth Women’s Group. She was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority.

She is survived by her husband, Charles, of Riverton; son, John David Brody of San Jose, CA; daughter, Jennifer Ann Brody Buehler and her husband, Stan Buehler of Aurora, CO; her grandchildren, Michael (Danielle) Buehler, Lauren (Ryan) Anderson, Christopher Buehler, and Joshua Buehler; her great grand daughters, Anne and Samantha Buehler; and her sisters, Annabelle Gergely Keith and Claradell Gergely Shedd.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Grace Gergely.

Memorials may be made to Help for Health Hospice or the Cancer Society in care of Davis Funeral Home, 2203 W. Main, Riverton, WY 82501.
