Funeral services for Vera Herrera of rural Riverton will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, at St. Stephen's Mission south of Riverton. The Rev. Dan Gannon will officiate and interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton. Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday April 18, at the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton. Mrs. Herrera died at Wind River Healthcare in Riverton on Saturday evening, April 14, 2007, at the age of 94. Elvira Medina was born in Cimarron, N.M., on Dec. 9, 1912, the daughter of Lewis and Petra (Hurtado) Medina. She married Hippolito Herrera in Las Vegas, Nev., and they were married for over 60 years until his death in July of 1996. She had lived in Riverton for 75 years. Mrs. Herrera was a member of the Catholic faith and a housewife. Her family said she loved being with her children and family and enjoyed crocheting and sewing. Survivors include sons Jack Herrera and his wife Mary of Riverton, and Hippolito Herrera and his wife Laura of California; daughters, Mary Sorensen of Glenwood Springs, Colo.; Margaret Shepard of Minnesota, Juanita DeLorme and husband Wayne of Arapahoe, and Kathy Jones and husband Ken of Lander; 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Frank Medina of Meeteetse, Ernest Medina, Louis Medina, and Laurance Medina, all of California; one sister, Lucy Medina of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hippolito; sons, John and Louie Herrera.
