Delight O’Neal, 84, of Ethete, died on Monday, August 3, 2015, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper. A rosary will be said on Friday, August 7, 2015, at 7:00 pm at Blue Sky Hall. A wake will follow at her home, 167 Trosper Lane. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at 10:00 am at Blue Sky Hall with Father Phil Wagner officiating. Burial will follow at Yellowcalf Cemetery.

Delight Headley was born on July 27, 1931 in Ethete, WY to Louis Wallowingbull Headley and Jesse Shakespeare-Headley. She was given the Native American Name Bo’oo’ meaning, Clear Path. She grew up in the Ethete area and attended St. Michael’s Boarding School. She later earned her G.E.D.

She was baptized into the Catholic Faith.

She lived on the Wind River Reservation her entire life, working and raising her family.

On October 19, 1948 she married, Emil O’Neal, in Themopolis, WY. They raised their family while traveling to sale beaded arts and crafts. They also ran a food stand at the Powwow’s, where she cooked.

She worked as a cook at Mill Creek School for many years and was also the librarian at St. Michael’s Mission. Her favorite “job” was being a Foster Grandparent at the Ethete Headstart Program, she loved being with the children.

She was an election judge for the Arapaho Tribe. She was very involved in the Arapaho Emersion Program, helping get started and teaching the Arapaho Language.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Jesse Headley; her husband, Emil O’Neal; her sons, Charles O’Neal and William O’Neal; her daughter, Catherine O’Neal; her brothers, Arnold Headley, Stewart Headley, Wilbur Headley, and Carl Headley; her sisters, Nira Headley and Maria Martinez; her grandsons, Alfred Topaum Jr., Christopher Topaum, and Neil Moon; her nephew, Jerry Headley, and her niece, Annette O’Neal.
