James "Jim" Groathouse

James “Jim” Groathouse, 62, of Riverton, died at his home on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. The funeral services is scheduled for 10:00 am on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Davis Funeral Home. Pastor Dave Magruder will officiate. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.

James Groathouse was born on January 7, 1953 in Riverton, WY to Vernon Orval and Hilda (Haun) Groathouse. He lived in Pavillion and Lander before the family moved to Laramie where he attended schools graduating from Laramie High School.

He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. His faith was strong through all of his struggles.

After graduating he worked in Rawlins at the Wyoming State Penitentiary as a correction office. He then moved to Green River and worked for the FMC Trona Mine before going to Casper College for two years. After college he moved to Fort Collins where he worked as a supervisor for Porter Industries. He also worked a security job in Fort Collins before moving to Nebraska. He lived in Wright and worked in Gillette for Peabody Mining at the North Antelope Rochelle Mine for 17 years before he had an accident that left him disabled and unable to work, he then returned to Riverton to live the rest of his live.

He enjoyed visiting family and friends, the outdoors, watching sports on T.V. especially baseball and football. He coached Little League in Laramie for some time. He supported all the local sport teams and attended their games as often as he could. One of his greatest joys was watching his great nieces and nephews in their sporting activities.

He is survived by his sister, Jeannie Groathouse-Hiltz of Salt Lake City, UT; his nieces, Shannon Groathouse-Christensen and Rachella Hiltz; his nephews, Kevin Hiltz and Dhana Groathouse; and his great nieces and nephews, Mackenzie Hiltz, Brodie Hiltz, Aiden Hiltz, Bryana Christensen, Brayden Christensen, Kalei Groathouse, and Noah Groathouse.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Hilda Groathouse; his brother, Robert Groathouse, and his grandparents, Jacob Sr. and Mary Haun and George and Ethel Groathouse.
