Mary Herrera, 84, of Riverton passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018, at Sage West Hospital – Riverton. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church with interment following at Arapaho Catholic Cemetery.

Mary Louise Duran was born on November 25, 1933 in Fort Washakie, WY to Thomas J. and Mary A. (Armajo) Duran. She was raised in the Riverton area attending grade school and graduated from Riverton High School with the class of 1955. She then attended Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, KS for two years. She then returned to the Riverton area.

She was married to Dan Romero and together they had three children. He preceded her in death. She then married Jack L. Herrera and together they had a daughter. She was a homemaker most of her live.

She was baptized into the Catholic faith and was a faithful member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the St. Stephen’s Parish Council, St. Joseph’s Alter and Rosary Club, and the Tekakwitha Circle. She also was active in the Native American Church.

She enjoyed reading, going to the Native American Ceremonies, including Sundance and Pow wows. Above all she enjoyed her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Jack Herrera of Riverton; son, Danny Romero of Riverton; daughters, JoAnn Romero of Riverton, and Elvera Martensen of Salt Lake City, UT, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Duran; son, Tom Romero; great grandchild, Logan; and her first husband, Dan Romero.
