Private funeral services will be held for June P. McBride who died at her home in Crowheart on Monday, June 7, 2010. She was 94. June Pauline Tilley was born in Jacksonville, Texas, on March 24, 1916, the daughter of Joseph Foster Tilley and Maude Emily (Presley) Tilley.

She grew up in Panama, where her father worked on the construction of the Panama Canal and her mother ran a restaurant for the construction workers. She attended two years of college in Panama, two years at the University of Texas in Austin, and one year at the Pratt Institute in New York.

She married Lewis Weston "Mac" McBride in Panama on Aug. 22, 1937.

Mr. and Mrs. McBride and their two daughters moved from Panama to Turkey in 1950. They went on to live in Greece, Morocco, and Italy. In 1961, she moved to Washington, D.C., where her husband was head of all military construction world-wide for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 1975, they moved back to Greece for several years. She moved to Crowheart in 1995 to be near her daughter Mackie and her husband Rod Johnson on their ranch on Dry Creek.

Mrs. McBride was a seamstress. After being widowed in 1981, Mrs. McBride and her daughter Mackie d'Arge began working with fabric, creating many intricate appliqué tapestries.

Her family said Mrs. McBride enjoyed traveling, sewing, making fabric flowers, astrology, and New Age thought.

Survivors include her daughters, June Anne Witherspoon of Wadesboro, N.C., and Mackie d'Arge of Crowheart; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis W. "Mac" McBride, and a brother, Joseph Tilley.
