Dorothy J. Bartholomew-Smith died at her home in Lander Thursday afternoon, March 17, 2011. She was 67. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held.

Dorothy Jane Bartholomew was born in Laramie, Wyo., on Aug. 25, 1943, the daughter of Melvin Albert Bartholomew and Shirley Mae (Nielson) Pearson. She grew up there and attended the Laramie and Fox Park School. She lived most of her life in Wyoming with some time in Colorado during her early years.

She married Elwin J. Smith on April 27, 1997, in Douglas.

She was of the Christian faith.

Mrs. Bartholomew-Smith was a professional seamstress, doing upholstery work, and worked as a cook and in catering management for forest fires and at man camps for the energy industry.

She was a political activist for property rights.

Her family said Mrs. Bartholomew-Smith enjoyed outdoor activities, horse back riding, snowmobiling, four-wheeling, camping, hunting, and being with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Elwin J. Smith of Lander; sons, Joseph A. Salinas and his fiance Sheila D McGinnis; a daughter, Andrea K. Duran of Kingman, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Benjamin Carl Phillips, Joshua Lee Phillips and wife Kim, Shanee Jade Paulsen, Joseph Micheal Salinas, and Amanda Sue Salinas; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Bill Bartholomew and his wife Rosie of Lander and Charles Bartholomew of Hudson; good friend, Diane Foster of rural Riverton.

She was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Bartholomew; mother, Shirley Mae Pearson, and brother Kenton Albert Bartholomew.
