Delores “Dee” Amend of Riverton died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, at Spring Wind Memory Care Center in Laramie. She was 85 years old.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the United Methodist Church in Riverton, followed by light lunch.
Mrs. Amend was born to Herman and Frieda Gompert on Dec. 5, 1930, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the fourth of seven children. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Betty, husband Dean Underberg, and brother Royce Gompert. Surviving siblings and their families include Arvid and Jackie Gompert, Shirley and Dave Fonken, Daryl Gompert and Leon Gompert.
On March 15, 1951, she married Edwin “Eddie” Amend of Rocky Ford, Colo., while they were students at Colorado A&M College (Now Colorado State University) in Fort Collins. They had four children.
Mrs. Amend is survived by her husband and by her children and children’s families: Mary and husband Jim Royston of Denver; Noel and wife Virginia (Wilson) Amend of Colorado Springs; Carol and husband Bruce Adams of Laramie, and Chris and wife Jennifer (Barnes) Amend of Riverton.
Grandchildren include Hilary and husband Kenny Chan, Ashley Royston, Tracie and husband Mike Begenchev, Kellie Amend, Devin Adams and partner Becky Raymond, Kelsey and husband Luca Ciccu, Garrett and wife Yazmin Adams, Rex and wife Sady Amend, Tom Amend, and great-grandchildren Evelyn Chan and Russell Amend. Other survivors include a host of relatives and friends.
Because Mr. Amend was a U.S. Air Force officer and university professor, the couple often moved their family. Without fail, Mrs. Amend “always cared for her family first,” family members said. “At many different locations, she was regularly employed as a highly skilled office manager and secretary. She was always actively involved in church and community affairs, volunteering to help others. She especially enjoyed helping elderly persons. Her life’s greatest love was her family, at every age and occupation. She was a generous, inveterate giver of herself, always putting others first.”
