Rhoda M. Nolan, 87 of Riverton, died on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at Help for Health Hospice in Riverton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Davis Funeral Home of Riverton.

Rhoda Marie Parker was born on Sunday, Aug. 24, 1924, to Lawrence A. Parker and Susie (Hawkins) Parker in Hyattville, where the family lived and ranched. She was the youngest of five children born to the couple. She also had seven half-brothers and sisters. She met James "Jim" Nolan of Mills at a dance in Casper. They were married in Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, on July 26, 1948, and lived in that area for a short time.

After leaving Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Nolan returned to Mills and raised their three children. The family enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking together. Mrs. Nolan worked at Woolworth's, Westridge Drug Store, Hilltop Bowling, Casper Petroleum Club, and McDonald's. The couple made their home in Casper until December 2001 when they moved to Riverton.

The family described Mrs. Nolan as an accomplished piano player who gave lessons to Casper-area young people for many years. They said she loved animals, and in particular had a lifelong passion for horses which began as a young girl in Hyattville. In their later years, she and husband traveled the state and region supporting the teams of their grandchildren and others in various athletic endeavors.

Mrs. Nolan was preceded in death by her parents and siblings; her husband, James Nolan; her daughter, Sue (Nolan) Abbott, and her son, Joseph Nolan.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Kay McFadden and husband Tim of Riverton; grandchildren, Kindie (Abbott) Chinn of Hillsboro, Ore., Chase McFadden and wife Stacie of Sheridan, and Cebee (McFadden) Richardson and husband Tracy of Laramie; great grandchildren, Darius Chinn of Hillsboro, Ore., Nolan, Reed, Kyndal, and Finn McFadden of Sheridan, and TR and Cal Richardson of Laramie; nephews, Daryl Parker and wife Nancy of Green River, and Lyle Parker and wife Muriel of California.
