A Memorial Service for Myrna Brooks Armajo, 89, will be held at a later date.  She fought a long courageous battle with cancer since being diagnosed in 2018, before finally succumbing to the cancer, surrounded by family and friends on October 24, 2025 at her home in Riverton, WY.

Myrna came into this world on September 12, 1936 in Gowanda, NY, daughter of William & Mabel (Plummer) Brooks. She grew up and was educated in Gowanda on the Cattaraugus Seneca Reservation for her entire childhood.  She was surrounded by family and especially close to her paternal grandmother Izora (Taylor) Brooks and her maternal grandfather Cornelius Plummer whom were great influences and proud Seneca Nation members.

Myrna was baptized and accepted our Lord Jesus Christ at a very young age; her faith was very important and a cornerstone for which was paramount throughout her entire life.

After graduating from Gowanda high school in 1954, Myrna would embark on continuing her education in British Columbia, Canada.  She would then find herself living and working in Chicago, Illinois.  Myrna went on to marry and they were blessed with three children, Randy, Cindy & Carl (Jr).  The family moved out west to Montana to her husband’s home the Fort Peck Sioux & Assiniboin reservation.  She raised all three of her children with the help of her special aunt, Edith Lewis.  Her children were her pride and joy, always making time for them and raise them in the same foundation of faith and love she shared with all the people she came to know.

She worked as a federal civil servant starting in Chicago and ending her career in 1995 at the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Poplar, MT.

Myrna loved her children and then her grandchildren whom she was so very proud of and was very influential in their early lives.  She met many friends that would turn into life long friendships from her work and life in all places she lived at.

After leaving work and retiring, Myrna found her soul mate, Frank Armajo, and she would move to Wyoming to marry and make her home there.  She and Frank enjoyed numerous years of joy and happiness travelling and watching their beloved Wyoming Indian Chiefs basketball teams, they rarely missed a game no matter the distance or weather.   Myrna and Frank would travel down south every year to visit family and get away from the harsh winters of Wyoming.

She also was an avid NBA watcher and would skip other invitations out if one of her games was on tv at that time.  Myrna’s love, compassion and faith will be cherished as she was always the family’s rock during the tough times.  She left us all with an example and role model of what hard work and just being the best version of yourself is to be.  She loved seeing photos and videos of her grandchildren and great-great grandchildren or talking to on the phone in her later years as her mobility declined and wasn’t able to travel as much as she liked.  She was a firm in believer in the power of prayer and would always pray for her family daily up until her last days.

Mrs. Armajo was preceded in death by her parents William and Mabel Brooks; brothers, Gene, Raymond Brooks; sisters, Arlene Dennison and Emma Issac; husband, Franklin James Armajo; daughter, Cynthia Firemoon-Bauer; son-in-law, Byron Bauer; great grandson, Xavier Brown.

Survivors include her sons, Randy Firemoon Sr. and Carl “Junior” LaClaire; Sister-in-law, Polly Brooks; “Taken sisters”, Claudia Thompson and Sue Petsch; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.

Myrna had many close friends, “taken children,” nephews, and nieces she loved all very much.  She left specific instructions in her will that no wake or funeral was to be held, with heavy hearts we will honor that final wish.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Mom will be missed but knowing she is now in the arms of the Lord and reunited with all her loved ones that have passed before, we will rejoice and carry on her legacy though our own faith and prayers.  We love you mom!
