Karen Kay Sonnenschein Allison

Karen Kay Sonnenschein Allison passed away peacefully at her home in Riverton, Wyoming on Saturday, November 1, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
In September 1960, Karen wed her first husband, John Sonnenschein, and together they nurtured a loving home for their four children: Tammy, Jon, Mike, and Greg. Their household was a vibrant space filled with joy, laughter, and the enticing scents of Karen's renowned baked goods. Among her specialties were Sour Cream Coffee Cake, Lemon Icebox Pie, and Steamed Date Pudding, all crafted with care and generously shared with family and friends. Tragically, John passed away in July 1992 after a courageous fight against leukemia.
Karen married Dr. Brooks Allison on August 2, 1998, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, following an introduction by a mutual friend. Their relationship deepened through a foundation of friendship, shared faith, and a commitment to family.
Karen dedicated a significant portion of her life to her role as a wife and mother, a position she cherished and took pride in. In addition to her responsibilities at home, she spent several years employed at Owl Creek Apartments in Riverton where she took great pleasure in ensuring the facility was well cleaned and maintained. She built wonderful relationships with residents and ministered to them by listening, helping, and engaging in a bit of chitchat. For Karen, her work exceeded mere employment; it embodied her deep-seated love and commitment to the welfare of others, rooted in her Christian beliefs.
Karen was a longtime and faithful member of Lighthouse Bible Church in Riverton. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering faith were evident to all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Brooks Allison; daughter Tammy Sonnenschein of Evanston, WY; sons Jon and wife Trenna Sonnenschein of Riverton; Mike and wife Hope Sonnenschein of Tampa, FL; Greg and wife Rachel Sonnenschein of Dubois, WY; eleven grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Velma Rogers, and her first husband, John Sonnenschein.
Karen passed away due to pneumonia, which developed as a complication of her stomach and lung cancer. Cremation has taken place in accordance with Karen’s wishes. Services are pending and will be announced later.
