Celebration of Life
Fritz Meyer, age 73, of Dubois, Wyoming passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.
Fritz, the son of Lawrence and Rosalie (Jaquish) Meyer, was born on March 21, 1952 and grew up on a dairy farm outside of Reedsburg, WI. From a young age, he developed a deep love for the outdoors, spending time hunting, fishing, and trapping with his dad and uncle, Clarence Meyer.
On July 27, 1974, Fritz married Connie Peterson of Cazenovia. Soon after their wedding, the couple moved to Wyoming just in time for the fall hunting season. Having visited Wyoming on a hunting trip, Fritz was determined to make the state his home and spend his days in its vast, open skies.
In the early years of his Wyoming life, the couple lived in Dubois and Riverton where Fritz worked logging, truck driving, in the uranium mines, and guiding. In the early 1990s, the couple purchased the Wasson Creek Hunting Camp (formerly owned by Rollie Brown) and started Wind River Mountain Outfitters. Fritz made his passion for the outdoors his livelihood, spending his days hunting, fishing, trapping, and telling stories of great hunts. Over the years, he hunted just about every animal in North America and even went on an African Safari. He will be missed for his gift to tell a good story and not to know a stranger for very long. He loved his family; was fortunate to have so many friends, a couple good horses and mules and loyal dogs.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Connie; Daughters, Kelly (Pat) Poppe, of Dubois and Brandi (Chamuel) Marvici, of Reedsburg, WI; grandchildren, Justin Poppe, of Dubois Reagan and Josie Marvici of Reedsburg; step grandchildren, Ben (Reedsburg. WI) and Toby (Cheyenne, WY) Marvici; sister, Jeanie (Steven) Winters, of Waukesha, WI; brother, Kenny Meyer, of Riverton; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends.
Fritz had a special relationship with his sister-in-law, Connie Meyer of Reedsburg and brother-in-law, John (Linda) Peterson of Richland Center, WI.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Joe and Bob Meyer; his father and mother-in-law, John and Mildred Peterson and close family friend, Tim Cannon.
The family will host a celebration of life at 2:00 p.m., the day of the Don Scheer Memorial Packhorse Race on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at the Headwaters Center in Dubois, WY. This is an event Fritz loved and looked forward to annually where he would serve as a judge for the event.
