Celebration of Life
Darrolyn Ann Crews died on January 1, 2026, at the age of 81, in Riverton, Wyoming. Darrolyn was born in 1944 in Glendale, California, the daughter of Dwayne and Lorraine Moeller. As the second of four children, and the only daughter, she was raised with her brothers under the jacaranda and palm trees of Pasadena in the 1940s and ‘50s.
Teenage trips to a family hunting camp in the Gros Ventre Valley, near Jackson, instilled a love of Wyoming that lasted a lifetime. After graduating from Pasadena High School and completing her Bachelor of Arts in English at Cal State Los Angeles, Darrolyn packed her suitcases into the front trunk of her best friend’s VW Beetle and set off for the state that would eventually become her lifelong home.
Darrolyn first landed in Thermopolis, Wyoming, washing dishes and “slinging hash” at the Pioneer Home assisted living facility and then putting her English degree to work as the Society Editor for the local rag, The Independent Record.
It was here that she met Jerry Crews. After a first date featuring a bucket of fried chicken and cheap wine at the unfinished house that would become their family home, Darrolyn and Jerry were rarely apart. They married in 1977 in Riverton, Wyoming; January 7, 2026 would have marked their forty-ninth anniversary.
Darrolyn and Jerry welcomed Jerry’s children from a previous marriage and had two children together. She was an expert at finding creative ways to keep the family entertained, fed, and laughing; and always with perfect grammar, punctuation, and nary a malapropism in their mist [midst].
The Girl Scouts were the heartbeat of Darrolyn’s life, from her time as a Daisy Scout in California, to leading her own troop, to organizing national and international events hosted in Wyoming. She repeated these words many times:
The Girl Scout Law
I will do my best to be
honest and fair,
friendly and helpful,
considerate and caring,
courageous and strong, and
responsible for what I say and do,
and to
respect myself and others,
respect authority,
use resources wisely,
make the world a better place, and
be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Darrolyn didn't just recite these words, she built a life around them: as a leading Tupperware Distributor; as a volunteer for community theater programs; as a sales clerk in an office supply store; as director of Human Resources at a local bank; and finally as founder of The Wyoming Wanderers, a travel and tour company where she acted as tour guide, fixer, entertainment director, and snack provider on trips around the world. Some of these skills later made her a world-class grandmother.
Those who carry Darrolyn’s legacy are her husband, Jerald B. Crews of Riverton; son, Jeremy Crews and his wife Attia, and their children, Jack and Frankie, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; daughter, Dr. Meghan Malensky and her husband Brian, and their children, Cooper and Livia, of Wilsonville, Oregon; stepdaughter, Sheila McMillan and her husband Brian, and their children, Jack and Katie, of Excelsior, Minnesota; stepson, Doug Crews and his wife Ellen, and their children, Abby and Sam, of Oceanside, California; brothers, John Moeller and his wife Barbara, of Casper, Wyoming, and Loren Moeller, of Altadena, California; sister-in-law, Nancy Thorne, of Valley Center, California; along with many nieces and nephews, hundreds of Girl Scouts, and dear friends near and far.
She was preceded in death by her parents Leean “Dwayne” Moeller and Anne “Lorraine” (Adler) Moeller; her brother, Steven Moeller; and sister-in-law, Ava Moeller.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Riverton, 900 E. Sunset Drive, Riverton, Wyoming.
