Funeral services for Leonard Ronald Moss, Sr., will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8, 2026 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church with interment to follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery.  A Vigil service with a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 7, 2026 at Great Plains Hall with a wake to follow at the Moss Family Home, 92 Chief Black Coal Circle.

 

The Arapaho Tribe mourns the loss of an amazing Elder and Ceremonial Leader, Leonard Moss, who was called home on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at his home in Arapahoe, Wyoming. While our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing that he now rests in God’s loving care and eternal peace.

Leonard was born on January 13, 1942, in Fort Washakie, Wyoming, the son of Herman Joseph Moss, Sr. and Rosie (Bitner) Moss. 

Mr. Moss honorable served in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War.

On November 4, 1966, Leonard was united in marriage to Alice Mary Spoonhunter in Thermopolis, Wyoming, beginning a loving partnership built on faith, family, and devotion.

Leonard lived a full life and found joy in many simple pleasures. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing at the casino, and playing his guitar, and he especially treasured time spent with his family. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling and hunting, making many memories along the way.

Leonard was a man of faith who was baptized into the Catholic Church and found comfort in attending services. His spiritual life, along with his deep connection to his people and traditions, guided him throughout his years. As an Elder and Ceremonial Leader for the Arapaho Tribe, Leonard was respected for his wisdom, strength, and leadership, leaving a legacy that will continue to be remembered and honored.

 

Survivors include his sons, Leonard Moss, Jr. (Ruth & Shawna), Gary Moss, Sr. and Carson Antelope; daughters, Madonna June Oldman, Wardeena Moss (Gerald), Angel Crawford (Payson), Avalene Glenmore (Mylan); brothers, Donald Moss and and Nelson Moss; sisters, Susanna Oldman, Ursula Aragon, Rosella Jorgenson and Maxine Moss “The baby;” grandchildren, Thomas Moss, Sr., Sheila Means (Randy), Dean Moss, Rayna Oldman (Mathew), Kathy Moss (Jacob), Marlin Oldman (Teresa), Beauty Oldman (Jonathan), Gary Moss, Jr., Joseph Moss, Tara Bell (Jaison), Christine Littleshield (Elijah), Wynnette Bell (Cole), Dale Moss, Jr. (Rheanah), Chayne Moss, Modesta Blackburn, Hailee Little Coyote, Angelina Bell (Sterling), Alissa Bell, Shanaoh, Gardner (Connelly), Angel Gardner (Orrin). 46 great grandchildren (and 2 on the way) and 1 great, great grandchild; Sundance Grandsons.  We apologize if anyone was left out during this difficult time.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Alice Mary Moss; children, baby Joseph Jude Moss, Lucy Addison Moss, Dean Moss and Dale Moss, Sr.; grandson, Richard “Little Richie” Lonedog, III; sibling’s, Delores Moss, Julie Brown, Vicki Friday, Eileen C’Bearing, Tekawitha SunRhodes, Weldon Dale Moss, Kendell Moss, Sr., Medrick Moss, Sr., and Herman J. Moss, Jr.
