Lifetime Riverton resident, Barbara Ann Bartel, 84, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026 in Riverton, Wyoming. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Davis Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Following graveside services, there will be a reception at Fire Station 1, 314 East Washington, Riverton, Wyoming. Viewing will be held Friday, January 16, 2026 at Davis Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Barbara Ann Dewey was born on August 8, 1941, daughter of Elmer F. and Cecelia M. (Suverkrubee) Dewey in Riverton, Wyoming. She began her education at Jefferson Elementary School and attended all Riverton schools, graduating as Salutatorian with the Class of 1959.
She married Edmund Bartel on August 30, 1959 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverton, Wyoming.
Throughout her career, Barbara served as a secretary for a local oil company and a local credit union, performed a variety of work activities with the Riverton Aquatic Team (RAT) swim team, and worked for six years with National Education Service Corporation (NESC), assisting with teacher recruitment and retention. Her favorite and most fulfilling role was serving for 26 years as the Attendance Secretary at Riverton High School, where she worked until her retirement.
She deeply loved her children and grandchildren and took great pride in being an active part of their lives, attending many sports and activites. Barbara served as Girl Scout Cookie Chairman in Riverton as well as President of the PTA for Lincoln Elementary School. For many years, she was involved in the ladies bowling league and enjoyed the friendships it brought. She was a talented needleworker, stitching beautiful counted cross-stitch pieces and earning numerous county fair ribbons for both her cross-stitch and crocheting. Barb had a lifelong love for animals, cherishing all her dogs and cats, and generously supported many animal organizations throughout the years.
Survivors include her son, David Bartel of Riverton, Wyoming; Daughters, Christina (Homer) Bennett of Afton, Wyoming, Rebecca (Jim) Landis of Emmett, Idaho, Katharina (Tim) Taylor of Smyrna, Tennessee; Grandchildren, Colter and Hunter Landis of Idaho, Kristina Taylor Gately of Tennessee, Kiley Marie Bennett of Guernsey, Wyoming; Brothers-in-law Jack Carr and Ken Myers.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents, Elmer and Cecelia Dewey; sisters, Dorothy Lee Myers and Ruth Carr; brother, Darrell Dewey.
