Stuart “Shep” Weldon Shepherd, 89, of Riverton, Wyoming, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at SageWest Hospital in Riverton. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
Shep was born on June 11, 1936, in Sanger, California, to James and Ardis (Baker) Shepherd. He married Nancy Kay Sims on July 4, 1958, in Reno, Nevada. Together they shared many wonderful years of marriage and raised three children: Jodie, Kirk, and Brian.
In 1973, Shep and his family moved from California to Riverton, Wyoming, where he made his home for the remainder of his life. He worked in agriculture before beginning a career as a field technician with KN Energy. He later retired from the company.
Shep was a lifelong learner with a wide variety of interests and talents. He enjoyed being an artist, gardening, cooking, hunting, and fishing. He had a strong passion for history and archaeology and was known as a fantastic horseshoe player. Shep was also very active at the Riverton Senior Center, where he spent much of his time and built many friendships.
Shep is survived by his wife, Nancy Shepherd; daughter, Jodie Shepherd-Denningham and her husband, Wayne; sons, Kirk Shepherd and his wife, Shelly, and Brian Shepherd; nine grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren.
