Tim Lawrence Guthrie
November 24, 1962 – February 5, 2026
Tim Lawrence Guthrie, 63, of Riverton, Wyoming, died Thursday, February 5, 2026, at his home in Riverton.
Tim was born on November 24, 1962, in San Diego, California, to Mary Oaks Guthrie and Jerry Guthrie. Following his father’s service in the United States Navy, the family moved to Riverton, Wyoming. Tim attended schools in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Hollister, California, before returning to Riverton, where he spent most of his life. He left school during his senior year to enlist in the United States Navy and proudly served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk.
Following his time in the Navy, Tim married Nancy, and together they had a son, Christopher. They later divorced. Several years later, he met Maria Wehling, and they were married for over twenty years. Though they later divorced, they remained very close friends.
Tim worked as a commercial painter, traveling throughout the country painting new motels for a national chain. He later worked in the oil fields on drilling rigs in several western states and on the North Slope of Alaska. The physical demands of that work eventually led him to obtain his commercial driver’s license, and he worked as a truck driver in his later years.
Tim and Maria attended First Baptist Church when his health allowed. He was artistic and enjoyed working with wood, crafting walking sticks and canes for family and friends. He also loved building and launching rockets.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Hutchison; his father, Jerry Guthrie; his grandparents, Dick and Blanch Guthrie and Marie and John Oaks; and his stepdaughter, Segourney Wehling.
He is survived by his son, Christopher Guthrie; his granddaughter, Jaslene Wehling; his brothers, John Guthrie, Cade Guthrie, and Michael Hutchison; his stepfather, Randy Hutchison; and his best friend, Maria Guthrie.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 16, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Riverton. A viewing will be held from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton.
