Martin “Marty” Ray Harris, Sr.
Martin “Marty” Ray Harris, Sr., passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Marty was born on April 5, 1965 in Lander. Wyoming to Raymond James Harris, Jr., and Amy Writingbird. He was primarily raised in Rocky Boy, Montana, on the Rocky Boy Reservation. Over the years, he made his home on the Wind River Indian Reservation, where he spent much of his life.
Marty was a simple man who lived life on his own terms. He enjoyed visiting with friends and could often be found sharing stories and laughter. His journey in life took many turns and carried him from place to place. Marty was a baptized member of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his daughter, Lindsay Poolaw; his sons, Martin Harris, Jr. and Udale Merasty; his brothers, Raymond J. Harris III, Talon Harris, Stephen LuJuenesse, and Tweety; and his sisters, Desiree Writing Bird and Caye Medicine Cloud. He is also survived by his uncle, Patrick Harris, and wife Clarice; his aunt, Donna Highwalker; his aunt, Rosie Moran; grandchild, Lindsey Nicholas Poolaw Jr.’ great grandchildren, Jaylen Cole and Kehlani Parne; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond James Harris, Jr. and Amy Writingbird; his sister, Wanda Harris and Francine Harris; his brother, Carols Harris, and Kenny Shoyo; his twin sister, Martina Harris; and grandparents, Louie and Edith Writing Bird and Raymond and Ambrosia (Chavez) Harris, Sr.
Also the families of Harris, Chavez, Writing Bird; and numerous friends and family.
A Vigil Service with Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Eagle Hall at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in St. Stephens, Wyoming. An all-night wake will follow at Eagle Hall.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2026, at Yellow Calf Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside his twin sister, Martina Harris.
