Larry Joe Howard

Larry Joe Howard, 79, of Pavillion, Wyoming, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2026, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born August 11, 1946, in Mooreland, Oklahoma, to Frank Ernest Howard and Ruth Jennie (Hilton) Howard. He grew up in Seiling, Oklahoma.
Larry worked as a train conductor for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in Oklahoma. In 1971, he and his wife moved to Pavillion, Wyoming, with their four children, where he began working in the oil field. He later became a drilling consultant and owned and operated Howard Consulting for over 45 years. As a drilling consultant, he oversaw drilling operations, coordinated crews and equipment, and ensured projects were completed safely and efficiently. He retired after 45 years in the oil field.
Larry married Patricia Gayle Hedrick on September 21, 1963. She preceded him in death on March 30, 2025, after 61 years of marriage.
He enjoyed fishing with friends, attending rodeos, riding horses, helping with brandings, and hunting big game and birds in the Wyoming mountains. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at the lake. He will be remembered for his unique personality by those who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his daughter, Kristan Lock and husband Alden; son, Anthony Howard and wife Teresa; grandchildren, Kelsie, Kortnie, Kassidy, Kaleb, and Kodie; 15 great-grandchildren; his brother, Buddy Howard and wife Paula; his sister-in-law, Cheryl Pettus; and five nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Gayle Howard; his parents, Frank Ernest and Ruth Jennie Howard; his sister, Norma Lee Smith (Aunt Sissy); his sons, Joe Bryan Howard and Jody Howard; his granddaughter, Brooke Howard; and his brother-in-law, Larry Pettus.
A viewing will be held Friday, March 6, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Riverton. Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton, Wyoming, in the family plot with his wife.
