No services will be held for Susan Givens, 79, who passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2026 at her home in Arapahoe, Wyoming. Although Susan requested no services, it was her hope that perhaps a kind gesture to a friend would be a nice thing to do in her memory.
Susan Virginia Fowler was born October 15, 1946, which happened to be the first day of hunting season, to Freeman D. and Virginia B. (Ramme) Fowler. She grew up in Idaho Springs, Colorado and spent every school day walking the one block to attend. She never took for granted the blessings of attending a small school and loved her many close friends she made.
Following high school graduation in 1964, Susie studied for 2 years at Presbyterian Hospital Nurse’s Training School before moving to Wyoming in 1966. In 1987, she moved to Arapahoe, Wyoming, after marrying George “Rasty” Earl Givens on March 8, 1986. The couple began their marriage with no money and 6 orphan lambs, but enjoyed many years of numerous lambs, many children and beautiful sunrises and sunsets. She worked at BiRite Drug as well as the US Post Office in Ethete for the next 20 years. She was blessed with the kindness and love of the people she met during her service at the post office. Susan retired in order to care for Rasty when he became ill. He went to be with the Lord in March of 2009.
Susan’s hobbies increased as she created beautiful beadwork and learned to work with wool and fleece; spinning, coloring and weaving. She also took pleasure in gardening, canning and sewing. She loved to attend rodeos, roping events, craft fairs and farmer’s markets as well as watching Fox News. She spent her last days unable to travel but enjoyed staying in touch with her friends and family through the internet. She cherished her time with her grandson and family.
Survivors include her sons, Guy (Janet) Givens, Britt (Brenda) Givens, Pat Givens and Nathan Givens; daughter, Jenny Cones; grandson, Hollis and Tara Givens and their son, Holt; cousin, Hank Harbert.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George “Rasty” Givens; parents, Freeman and Virginia Fowler; Kassie Joe Fowler and Ron Givens.
