Funeral services for Jude Charging Crow, Sr. will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 13, 2026 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery. A Vigil service with a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 12, 2026 at St. Stephen’s Eagle Hall with an all-night wake to follow.  The services will be accompanied by the Young Sky Nation Drum Group.

 

Jude passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026 in Lander, Wyoming.

 

Jude Dominic Charging Crow, Sr. was born on January 1, 1961, in Riverton, Wyoming, the son of Alfred Spoonhunter, Sr. and Aurilda Addison Spoonhunter. He was given his Indian name, Boh’ Hiinoono’et, meaning “Thunder Cloud,” a name that reflected both strength and spirit. He was proud of his heritage and was an enrolled member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe. Jude carried his culture with him throughout his life, honoring his traditions and community.

 

He attended St. Stephen’s Indian High School, where he formed lifelong connections and remained rooted in the values of his upbringing.

 

On October 7, 1981, Jude married Elsie Shakespeare in Fort Washakie, Wyoming. Together, they built a life centered on family, love, and tradition. Jude was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who found his greatest joy in caring for his family. He especially loved cooking for them, gathering everyone together, and spending time with his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.

 

Jude worked hard throughout his life, providing for his family as a mechanic and through his work with the Arapaho Ranch, Ditton Roofing, Inc., and the Wind River Casino. He was known for his strong work ethic, steady presence, and willingness to lend a helping hand.

 

Survivors include his wife, Elsie Charging Crow; daughter, Shawna Charging Crow and Shawna’s children, Kiara Fighting Bear, Leland Fighting Bear, Ethan Fighting Bear, Jr., and Thaddeous Fighting Bear; sons, Jude Charging Crow, Jr. and Stanley Shakespeare; daughters, Sharon, Ramona and Lemea; grandchildren, Emma Charging Crow, Janae Charging Crow, Jade Charging Crow, Jude Charging Crow, III, Johnny Charging Crow, Anthony Monroe, Ronnie Monroe, Elarrah Bianas, Darren Shakespeare, Rieco Shakespeare, Serenity Shakespeare, Rocky, Jo Mike; great grandchildren, Jalen Rian, Laxavion, MJ, Eclipse and Zaiyden;  brothers, Mathew C. Crow, Terry Spoonhunter, Marlin Spoonhunter, Theron Spoonhunter, Harvey Spoonhunter, Ray Spoonhunter, Ryan Spoonhunter, James Gardner, Sr., John Bushyhead, Jr., Tom Bushyhead; sisters, Alrita Talks Different, (Alvin), Tillie Jenkins, and Lorenda Hanway.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Spoonhunter, Sr.; mother, Aurilda (Addison) Spoonhunter; Benno Standing Elk, Hank Standing Elk, Alfred Spoonhunter, Jr., Howard Spoonhunter, Brenta Arthur, Susie Spoonhunter; daughter, Alfreda Monroe; grandchildren, Rikki Shakespeare, Adam Fighting Bear and Angel Bianas; Ronnie Monroe Sr.
