Edwin Benton Vermillion, son of Edith (Wright) Vermillion and Omar Vermillion passed away peacefully, September 17, at the Wind River Health Care. He was 97.

He was born February 8, 1915 in Competition, Missouri. He graduated from high school in 1933. In high school, he and his twin brother, Waldo, were outstanding basketball players. He attended Bolivar Junior College for one semester.

In 1935 he came to Wyoming, purchased land and farmed.

He married Geraldine Annan on December 20, 1941 in Lander, Wyoming. He was drafted in World War II, for four years, two of those were in Germany and Belgium. When he was discharged for the service, he returned to farming in Pavillion until retiring to Riverton in 1992. He served as Deputy Assesser, on the Pavillion School Board, and the Grazing Committee of Midvale Irrigation Board . He was a member of the Odd Fellow’s Lodge and American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine of 70 years, daughter; Charlene Stone and her husband Clyde of Riverton; son Robert Edwin Vermillion and his wife Sharon of Riverton, 6 grandchildren; Heidi Olson and husband Rob, Robert Brown, Linda Gillium and husband Shawn, Marci Campbell and husband Jason, Tracey Wiley and husband David, Tom Vermillion and wife Nicol; 14 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild; cousin Judy Smittle and numerous other cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Waldo and Herbert; 2 sisters, Juanita Montgomery and Ruth Oster and by his cousin that was raised as a sister, Thelma (Vermillion) Fike.

A celebration of his life will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 24, 2012 at Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Robin Stupka officiating. Graveside military rites will follow by the Friday-Truan Detachment #683 Marine Corp League and Veterans at the Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m., Sunday, September 23rd.
