Donald H. “Catfish” Cavaness of Riverton died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at his home. He was 66 years old.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3628, 1409 West Main in Riverton, with Rev. Father Allen Lambert officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Donald Howard Cavaness was born in Cheyenne, WY on March 10, 1946, the son of Howard Leslie and Phyllis Martha (Pasholk) Cavaness. He grew up in Riverton and was graduated with the Class of 1965 from Riverton High School. He attended 2 years at Casper College.

Mr. Cavaness served in the United States Navy working as a boatsmate and gunnery. While living in four years in Orange, CA, he met his future wife, Dianne. Donald moved to Idaho and worked at a resort for a year, before moving to Utah and staying there for two years. He then moved back to Riverton. Donald and Dianne married on September 29, 1973 in Riverton, WY.

Donald also worked as a general contractor and dry waller.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting and spending time in the outdoors. He also loved to bowl, spend time with his family and was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne of Riverton; daughters, Hope Dawn Cavaness and Danielle Kimberly Cavaness; 1 grandchild; brothers, Wayne and Gary Cavaness.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Larry Cavaness.
