David “Chic” Spoonhunter Sr. 61, of Arapahoe died at his home on Monday, September 2, 2013. A rosary will be held on Friday, September 6, 2013 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church at 7:00 pm followed by a wake at 428 Little Wind River Bottom Road. A funeral mass will be on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 10:00 am at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery.

David Charles Spoonhunter, Sr. was born on January 4, 1952 in Riverton, WY to David Charles and Molly Potter (Trumbull) Spoonhunter. He attended schools at St. Stephens Indian Mission and at Riverside in Anadarko, OK. He attended college at Central Wyoming College and Chadron State College. He also received training from the Police Academy Intermountain in Brigham City, UT.

After high school he served in the Army and was honorably discharged on January 28th, 1975.

He lived on the Wind River Indian Reservation and also for some time in Denver, CO and Washington State.

He worked as a Park Ranger in Teton National Park, was a BIA Police Officer, a bus driver for St. Stephens and Wyoming Indian Schools, was a dialysis technician, BIA Roads as a truck driver, in security at the Wind River Casino, and as an EMT and CAN at Morning Star Manor.

His family said that he enjoyed bingo, fishing, reading western books, and watching movies.

He is survived by his sons, David C Spoonhunter, Jr., Darin C. Spoonhunter, Vernon K Spoonhunter, Leon Spoonhunter and Dexter Spoonhunter; his daughter Jolene D Spoonhunter; and his brother Clyde Spoonhunter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David and Molly; his daughters, Davina C Spoonhunter and Valorie Chavez.
