Memorial services for Gladys Theo “Jody” Opheim, 84, will be held at a later date with inurnment of the ashes taking place at Lawndale Cemetery with her husband in Opheim, MT. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Davis Funeral Home.

Mrs. Opheim died May 3, 2014 at the Help for Health Hospice Home.

She was born June 26, 1929 in Helena, Montana daughter of James Paul Martin and Lorna Belle Hallock.

Jody attended 1st and 2nd grade in Norris, MT, 3rd-6th grade in Great Falls, MT; 7th and 8th in Portland, Oregon, 9th–11th grades in Opheim, MT and 12th grade in St. Ignatius, MT when she received her GED in 1979. She also attended Salish Kootiney College in the 80’s studying Early Child Development Course (Headstart).

On September 1, 1946, she married Rex O’Neal Opheim in Glasgow, MT.

She was of the Lutheran faith and was a Sunday School Teacher while raising her family; 4 sons and 1 daughter. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Opheim, MT; was a member of the Senior Center in St. Ignatius, MT (Quilter) and was a member of the Riverton, Wyoming Senior Center (Housing) Socializing and volunteering services.

She enjoyed quilting, painting pictures, sewing clothes for family and making quilts for seniors. Jody had a passion for serving people. She managed the ENCO Club Kitchen at the Radar Station in Opheim, MT, and was also a head cook at Glasgow, MT Air Force Base. Mrs. Opheim managed the Legion Club Kitchen in Billings, MT, was a Headstart teacher and cook at St. Ignatius, MT, she also and created “Learning flannel graphs and stories” for Headstart. Jody also enjoyed adventure such as snowmobiling, camping and Hot Air Ballooning.

Jody was a lifelong resident of Montana until she moved to Riverton, WY in November, 2010 to live near her daughter.

Survivors include her sons, Jerry and wife Vicki Opheim of Billings, MT, Jim Opheim of Glasgow, MT, Mikel Opheim of Kalispell, MT and Berney Opheim of Missoula, MT; daughter, Loni and husband Terry Freese of Riverton, WY. G’ma Jo as referred by her family had 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Mrs. Opheim was preceded in death by her husband, Rex and her parents.

Memorials may be made to Help for Health Hospice in care of the Davis Funeral Home, 2203 W. Main Street, Riverton, WY 82501.
