Clarence "Archie" C'Hair

Clarence “Archie” C’Hair, 63, died on September 22, 2015, in San Francisco, CA. A rosary will be recited on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at 7:00 pm at 34 Red Crow Lane in St. Stephens with the wake to follow at the same location. A funeral mass will be on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at 10:00 am at St. Stephens Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the Arapaho Catholic Cemetery.



Clarence Isaac C’Hair was born on July 4, 1952 in Fort Washakie, WY to Grace C’Hair He was baptized into the Catholic Faith. He grew up on the Wind River Reservation and attended schools at St. Stephens. He was raised by his grandmother.



He moved to Los Angeles, CA after his mother passed away and lived there until relocating in 2000 to San Francisco, CA and lived there until his passing. Living in L.A. Archie was in a long term relationship with Omerlene, the relationship eventually ended when she became an addiction counselor. He always laughed and said” All my friends sobered up and become alcohol counselors.” In March of 1999 his sister went to Los Angeles and contacted different American Indian programs until she found someone that knew “Archie”. She had not seen him in nearly twenty years. It was a happy reunion.



His family said that he was a free- spirited person and a very good artist. He was humble and hard working. He spent decades living as a “street chief” and was able to overcome adversity and had been off the streets for several years with the help of C.A.T.S. Recovery Program. He understood both Spanish and Chinese while keeping fluent in Arapaho. He was mischievous and a rebel-rouser in his early 20’s. He loved his family, talking about the old days, listening to Credence Clearwater Revival, and he had a great sense of humor.



He is survived by his friends and adopted family in San Francisco and the staff of Coronado Hotel; his brothers, Merrill Shamblen and Roy D. Shamblen, Sr.; his sister, Laura Lee C’Hair; his nephews, Roy D. Shamblen, Jr, Chris M. Monroe, Jordan Shamblen, and Josh Monroe; his niece, Marcella Jewel Monroe; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren;.C’Hair’s ,Whiteplume’s and other relatives.



He was preceded in death by his mother, Grace C’Hair; his grandmother, Pauline Whiteplume- C`Hair, his uncles, Robert C’Hair and Sherman C’Hair; his aunts, Laverne C’Hair, Viola C’Hair, and Emily C’Hair; and numerous cousins.
