Mary Jane Blackbird died Saturday, July 19, 2008, at Deaconess-Billings Clinic, following a lengthy illness. She was 34. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at Blue Sky Hall at Ethete. Burial will follow at the Friday Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Blue Sky Hall with a wake to follow at the home of Susanna Oldman, #70 17 Mile Road. Mary Jane Blackbird was born on July 16, 1974 to Elmer Blackbird and Susanna Oldman. She received an associates' degree in medical Science from Fort Belknap College and also attended Eastern College in Billings, Mont. Her family said Ms. Blackbird enjoyed being around her family and friends, making jewelry, beadwork, going to bingo, and taking care of her horse, Baby. She is survived by children, Marlissa Wells, Amanda Moss, and Blaine Moss, all of Ethete; father, Elmer Blackbird of Shepard, Mont.; mother, Susanna Oldman and Jerome of Ethete; sisters, Elmeretta Blackbird of Albuquerque, N.M., Jeanette Roanhorse and husband Greg of Ethete, Denise Oldman of Seattle, Wash., and Noreen Williams of Anchorage, Alaska; brothers, Ronald Moss and wife Candace of Ethete, Jesse Blackbird and wife Kelly of Albuquerque, N.M., Elfredrick Blackbird of Tuba City, N.M., Jerome Oldman Jr. and wife Madonna of Arapahoe, Thomas and Duane Oldman, both of Seattle, Wash.; grandparents, Jean Campbell, Jeanette Daniels, Selena Ditmar, and Walter Blackbird all of Fort Belknap, Mont., Dorothy Gambler, Bernice Miller, Sarah Black, Alfred Spoonhunter Sr., Howard Spoonhunter, Stanley Spoonhunter Sr. of Arapahoe, Virginia Antelope, Burton and Joyce Hutchinson Sr., Robert and Ruth Goggles, and Florence Trosper of Ethete; uncles, Gary Blackbird, Kenneth Blackbird, Sherman Horn, Don Gambler, Kendall Moss Sr., Medrick Moss Sr., Crawford White Sr., Wayne and Connie Brown, Nelson and Bonnie White Sr., Leonard and Alice Moss Sr., Donald and Linda Moss, Alonzo and Gladys Moss Sr., Nelson and Emma Moss, and Harold and Sylvia Moss; aunts, Rosella Moss, Delores Moss, Maxine Moss, Anita Carrier, Zona Moss, Tekawitha SunRhodes, Vicky and Wayne Friday, Ursula and Robert Aragon Sr., Julie and Martin Brown Sr., Gloria and Lawrence Wheeler, and Charlene and Don Brown; numerous relatives throughout Wyoming and Montana.
