Velma E. Cox

Graveside services for Velma E. Cox of Riverton will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, April 10, at Mountain View Cemetery in Riverton. The Rev. Mark Shaklee will officiate.

Mrs. Cox died at Riverton Memorial Hospital on Tuesday evening, April 13, 2010. She was 89.

Velma Elizabeth Murdoch was born in Gilpin, Texas, on May 25, 1920, the daughter of W.F. and Mary Elizabeth Murdoch.

She was a housewife, having married John Sam Cox on Sept. 3, 1949, in Albuquerque, N.M.

The family came to Riverton from New Mexico 50 years ago. For over 50 years, she worked with her husband on the family farm on Eight Mile Road.

Mrs. Cox attended the First Assembly of God Church.

She helped with the exhibit hall during the Fremont County Fair.

Her family described her as thoughtful, caring of family and friends, and loved to have visits from her grandchildren. They said she enjoyed sewing and faithfully attended Bible study.

Survivors include her son, William Thomas Stone; daughters, Mary Katherine Lookingbill and Sammie J. Hill; nine grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one sister, and three brothers.

Memorials may be made to the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Wyoming, or to the Greater Europe Mission, in care of the Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main, Riverton, WY 82501.
