Jack Meeks of Shoshoni died Sunday afternoon, March 6, 2011, at Morning Star Manor at Fort Washakie. He was 91. Funeral services are at 10:00 a.m, on Saturday, March 12 at the LDS Church in Shoshoni. President Robert Zent will officiate. Military Services will follow at the LDS Church held by The Friday-Truan Detachment #683, Marine Corp. League and Veterans. Cremation has taken place and burial of cremated remains will be at the Shoshoni Cemetery at a later date. Jack Graham Meeks was born in Thermopolis on Jan. 16, 1920, the son of Harvey Ray Meeks and Lilbern Camy (Neel) Meeks. He was graduated from Thermopolis High School with the Class of 1939. Mr. Meeks served with the U.S. Army during World War II, entering military service on July 15, 1942. He was a combat infantryman who fought in the Rhineland and Central Europe, earning the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 30, 1945. He married Elosia Perea and they had three sons before divorcing. On April 26, 1958, he married Elizabeth Gira in Thermopolis. She preceded him in death in January of 2000. Mr. Meeks worked as a laborer and had been employed by the Town of Shoshoni and Magcabar. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Shoshoni and the Shoshoni VFW. Survivors include two sons, Dennis Meeks and his wife Janice, and Louis Meeks and his wife Donna; six grandchildren, Daryl Meeks and wife Jessica, Bonnie Heinert and husband Dean, Billy Meeks and wife Laurie, Joel Meeks and wife Holly, and Louis Meeks, Jr., and Kati Meeks; 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Meeks; son, Jackie Meeks; three sisters, and one nephew. Memorials may be made to the Shoshoni Senior Center, in care of the Davis Funeral Home, 2203 West Main Street, Riverton, WY 82501.
