Melanie “Mel” Diane Schrock May 7, 1940 – July 1, 2025
Melanie “Mel” Diane Schrock, 85, of Riverton, Wyoming, peacefully passed away in her home on July 1, 2025, surrounded by family. Born on May 7, 1940, in Athens, Ohio, Melanie was the only child of her parents but went on to build an extraordinarily large and loving family of her own.
At the age of 17, Melanie became a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was honored to serve as Queen—an early reflection of her lifelong dedication to community and service. A faithful Christian, Melanie led her life with grace, compassion, and a deep love for others.
Melanie married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Schrock, on June 8, 1957, in Newhall, California. Together, they raised three children and built a life full of love, laughter, and adventure. After raising her children, Melanie returned to school and earned a degree in special education. Following a move to Wyoming in the early 1980s, she used her degree to work at the Wyoming State School for five years, where she made a lasting impact on the lives of her students.
A woman of many talents, Melanie was a gifted cross-stitcher, earning accolades at the county fair. She poured her heart into every stitch and lovingly created personalized gifts for her entire family and all of her friends—treasures that will be cherished for generations. She also found joy in reading, camping, beach outings, and shared a passion for hunting and fishing with her husband. Melanie co-founded R&M Trucking with Richard and served as the business office manager, playing a vital role in the success of their family business.
Melanie spent 40 years in California before making Riverton, Wyoming her home for the past 45 years. She is survived by her beloved husband Richard; her three children, Steven Schrock (wife Mary) of Lysite, WY; Diane Vassos (husband Gary) of Riverton, WY; and Paul Schrock (wife Leilani) of Riverton, WY. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Heather, Jesse, and Christian (children of Diane); Raenae and Deedee (children of Steven); Amanda and Jordyn (children of Paul); and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Melanie was a kind, intelligent woman who loved with her whole heart. Though an only child by birth, she created one of the most beautiful and expansive families imaginable—her proudest legacy. She will be remembered for her unwavering strength, gentle spirit, creative soul, and deep, abiding love for those around her.
She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her.
