Richard L. Emond, 82, of Riverton, Wyoming, passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Westward Heights Care Center in Lander, Wyoming.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the Riverton Elk’s Lodge, 207 E. Main Street. Friends and family are invited to share stories and raise a toast in his memory. Inurnment will take place later in the Dubois Cemetery according to his wishes.

Richard was born on August 18, 1943, in Escanaba, Michigan, the son of Andrew and Florence Mildred (Olson) Emond. He grew up in Dubois, graduating from Dubois High School in 1961. He went on to attend Casper College, receiving his Associate of Arts degree in 1963, and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Technology and Business Administration from San Jose State College in 1971.

Richard proudly served in the Wyoming Army National Guard beginning in 1971 until his honorable discharge in 1973. During his service, he was awarded the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal and earned the Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle clasp.

A man of many interests and adventures, Richard worked as a traveling salesman and later operated a hardware store. He eventually pursued a career in real estate sales and development, operating the Dubois Land Office and established Real Estate Professionals “REPS” in Riverton. Richard had a passion for history and the outdoors, often attending mountain man rendezvous, especially the 1838 Mountain Man Rendezvous, and enjoying muzzleloading activities.

His adventurous spirit took him far beyond Wyoming. He backpacked through Europe and North Africa in 1967, loved climbing and scuba diving, and achieved his private pilot’s license, completing his first solo flight on April 22, 1979, from the Riverton airstrip.

Survivors include his partner, Ida Bell “Teddy” (Hatfield) Smith; daughters, Rebecca Christine (Hansen) Lamb and husband Kirby, and Michelle “Shelley” Emond (Jamie Jontes); seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Faye Miller, Loren Lamphear, Steve Lamphear, Barbara Salisbury, Jeanne Niemeyer: and aunt Larryne Crawford.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Terry Lamphear and Richard Smith; and sister, Virginia Markl.
