Alvin Pennock

Pennock, Alvin

I had the privilege of being a part of Alvin's family for many years when he and my mother were married. He had a huge heart, loved the outdoors and had a very contagious laugh. I don't believe he ever met a stranger or passed by someone in need without stopping.

My fondest memory as a young man was fishing on the Sweetwater or Bogg Lake and camping on Union Pass. We caught many trout, drove around his homemade contraption ("Clyde") and even forded a few streams by cutting the fan belt on the Jeep. Alvin was very inventive and wouldn't let a little trouble stand in the way, like a broken driveline, just take it off, put the Jeep in four wheel and hit the road; or placing a propane torch under the engine and fuels lines to defrost them on a very cold March morning. Although, he may have regretted loading down the pickup with so many drill bits that he sheared off all of the lugnuts when turning a corner in Shoshoni.

I'll never forget learning to drive out by Lysite, "Son you are 14, now drive us home". It was a great lesson! Or, how we learned how to use the new wood splitter, after I broke the window out of the old Datsun pickup. Or how he had that one legged jump shot that went in every time! Or, how he loaded the 22 revolver with soap and was shooting flies off the walls in the camper...

I loved to hear the stories about Chugwater and his escapades. Like, riding his bike down Main Street, turning a corner and loading and elderly woman in the basket, and then just kept on riding. Or, how he and his sister drove the Jeep through the front of the church on a Sunday morning.

My fondest memory was when I was about 11 and we were out on the Red desert hunting arrow heads. I was a chatter bos and was just a talking away asking questions. Alvin looked at me and said, if you don't shut up I am going to fill your mouth full of this copenhagen. So I shut up, even when he was looking out the window and didn't see the 10 foot ravine that we drove into. He got red mad and then about choked on his copenhagen laughing at the situation... He said I could talk again after we unloaded the 3 spares and the bumper jack and got the pickup out of the ravine!

He was a great father and friend and will be sorely missed. My condolences to the entire family.

Joe

May Alvin Pennock RIP, "...Everything he has made pretty in its time. Even time indefinite he has put in their heart... I have come to know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good during one’s life; and also that every man should eat and indeed drink and see good for all his hard work. It is the gift of God."Ecclesiastes 3:10-13"
The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, ... to a resurrection of life." John 5:28,29

Sandy and family - our sincere sympathy in your loss.

Sandy, we are saddened by the news of Alvin's passing. He was a very special brother-in-law.

One of my fondest memories of Al is when years ago he put together and conducted a grand tour at a drilling rig near Shoshoni for the members of the Casper Desk and Derrick Club. As a bonus, Al also made arrangement for an additional visit to a local sculptor/artist's shop. The field trip was thoroughly enjoyed by all of us who attended.

Note from Juli: I have happy memories of summer visits to Riverton at Uncle Al's and of fun times with my cousins. So long Uncle Al.

both of you laughed a lot, I will always remember that.....Just remember this....Death leaves a heartache no one can heal but love leaves the memories no one can steal. When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure. Remember he is not gone, just gone ahead.
