Anita Portwood

Portwood, Anita

I was so saddened when I learned that Anita had passed away. She was such a wonderful woman and I truly loved her as I was growing up and living just up the hill from your family. Seem that February is going to be the month for loss, since I lost my sister (Joyce) almost a year to the day from the passing of Anita. My heart goes out to you in this time of loss. May you find comfort in each other and the wonderful memories that you all have!

I always enjoyed Anita and especially working with her at St. Stephens. What lovely daughters she raised. My thoughts are with her family.

Aunt So-So was the greatest. She always had that wonderful smile. I have so many great memories of spending time with her and Uncle Sonny when we spent the summer with family. She always made me feel special. Mickey and Cheryl were so beautiful and we were in awe of them. Mom still had the newspaper clipping about Michelle being Miss Indian America and our relation to her in our local paper.

When I had my first child she sent me the most beautiful little lavender dress and hat that was smocked across the top. I still have it.

I love you Auntie and say hi to mom and tell her we miss her.

My sincere condolences to Michele and Cheryl. I remember when you two and Anita would visit us when we lived on Park. I wasn't old enough for school yet, but remember those times fondly. Your mother ran the race well, and now rests in the arms of Jesus.

Michelle(Micky as I remember) and Cheryl - I was deeply saddened to hear of your mothers passing. So so many fond memories when you all lived across the street from us on Park. Your mother was always so sweet and nice and I loved her smile. The last time we saw her was at your house Cheryl. You had just finished an addition for her. Pat, Mom and I came to visit and with that infectious smile of hers was so happy and proud to show us her room.
My sincere condolences to you both and your families.
Love,
Vonnie (Shepherd) Cisar

So sorry for your loss. She is with the Lord now and all those that have gone before are having a grand time greeting her. She will be truly missed.

SoSo is one of the people I have missed most while living away from Wind River and now I will miss her even more. Whenever I talked to her I could sense through her smile, eyes, and words an extraordinary spirit, great love for life, sharp mind, strong faith, and depth of memory. I will prayer for her journey home and all the relations this weekend. My heart is trying to travel there, but I'm afraid I can only be there in spirit this weekend.

It was with a sad heart that I read the news of Mrs. Portwood's passing. My condolences to the family at this time. During my travels as MIA XVI, Mrs. Portwood traveled with me to Pine Ridge, South Dakota in December of 1969. She made the trip so enjoyable and we laughed when we woke up to frozen pipes one morning. She was up early, melting snow so that we could have breakfast and freshen up before our day started. She will always have a special place in my heart for making that trip so memorable and I will remember her fondly.

Cheryl/John and Michele, and family…Anita has departed from this earth but she never truly leaves, with her wonderful legacy that she leaves in you, with her intelligence, kindness and resiliency. She was a powerful (in her own way) and kind and competent woman, who lived a full and robust life. I admire her, and you. I am reminded of the importance of family, Cheryl, after our short visit last September. Let’s keep the connection. Brother Bret asked me to convey his sympathies too. Much love and my condolences on the loss of your beloved mother. Lisa (Kate) Collins

Anita was a remarkable, caring lady who lived life to the fullest. My mom was very fond of her as Anita was a kindred caring soul. My thoughts and prayers are with Cheryl, Michele, Sissy, Dag and everyone in the Portwood family today. Blessings to all. Coco Collins Koch.

Dear ones, we grieve with you in the loss of a great woman from this Earth, and yet rejoice that our beloved Aunt Anita is now with our Savior. Over the years, she often remembered us with cards and handwritten notes. We loved Aunt Anita from a distance and saw her too seldom in this life. Our love to the extended Portwood family.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you today as you celebrate the life of a remarkable woman. I first met Anita in Avenal, probably at Christmas time,(1955) when I was a young bride of 19. Anita, Sonny, Micki and Cheryl embraced me as a member of the family, and it has never changed. I loved Anita like an older sister and I will never ever forget her. One of my cherished memories was our visit at Jackson Hole Lodge many years ago when Cheryl and Tom brought Anita to see Troy and me.

She was so intelligent, warm, witty and full of fun. I only regret that I wasn't able to see her more often during the years.

Cheryl, it meant so much to me when you came to Glenwood Springs in September. Lisa and Coco want to continue the bond you all made and will undoubtedly visit you in Riverton. Family is everything!

With much love and blessings, Sandy Collins Hall and Troy Hall

I enjoyed going out to uncle Sonny and aunt Soso's country home when I was a girl
growing up in Riverton. Aunt Soso was just sweet. She always had loving arms to
wrap us kids in and give us a hug. I know she touched the lives of many in a kind and gentle way. I will be thinking of all the family in this time of sorrow.
